Jussara World Dominion Review: Cast, Rating & Release

Array

Jussara World Dominion, better known as Jurassic World Dominion, was sold as the closure fans had waited 30 years for. It is the third film in the Jurassic World reboot trilogy and brings back the original trio of Neill, Dern and Goldblum. I went in hoping for the 1993 magic. What I got was impressive dino action wrapped around a messy, overstuffed narrative.

What Is Jussara World Dominion About?

The story picks up four years after Fallen Kingdom. Dinosaurs now live on every continent alongside humans. A news segment early on shows the dinosaur black market, illegal dino operations, and a world struggling to share the global food chain with predators that should not exist.

Owen and Claire live in a remote cabin in the Sierra Nevada, raising Maisie, now a teenager. Maisie is a clone, and that makes her valuable. Blue the raptor has also produced a baby raptor asexually. Poachers kidnap both Maisie and the baby, and Owen and Claire chase them to Malta.

A second plotline follows Ellie Sattler. Genetically altered locusts are destroying US farmland, but they leave Biosyn crops untouched. Ellie suspects Biosyn Genetics and its CEO, Lewis Dodgson. She recruits Alan Grant, and Ian Malcolm, who works inside Biosyn HQ in the Dolomite Mountains, helps them get in.

The two storylines meet at the Biosyn valley sanctuary. From there, the Jurassic World Dominion movie becomes a series of rescue missions, chases and dino battles. It plays less like a monster movie and more like a spy story with dinosaurs in the background.

Jussara World Dominion Cast and Performances

The Jussara World Dominion cast is the film’s biggest selling point. Having both generations of heroes in one frame is something fans wanted for years. The results are uneven, though, and the older cast clearly outshines the newer one.

The Legacy Trio: Neill, Dern and Goldblum

Jeff Goldblum is the standout. His Ian Malcolm still has the rockstar chaotician swagger, and many of his lines feel improvised. His commentary on capitalism, delivered with a touch of self-loathing since he works for Biosyn, gives the film its sharpest moments.

Laura Dern and Sam Neill bring warmth and real chemistry. Ellie and Alan pick up their old dynamic with ease, from a dig site reunion to quiet moments of shared nostalgia. Even when the script hands them cringe dialogue, they play it as serious scientists, and that helps.

The trouble is how little the story uses them. They often feel like nostalgia marketing rather than characters with a mission of their own. Still, seeing the trio together for one last satisfying end was, for me, the main reason the film works at all.

Owen and Claire: Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard

Chris Pratt plays Owen on action hero autopilot. His alpha energy and charisma carried earlier films, but here he gets little to do beyond running and raising his hand at raptors. Owen never gets a new trait or a real arc.

Bryce Dallas Howard fares a little better. Claire has a few strong action beats, but her character still feels flat. The film seems confused about whether she is the lead, a mother, or a former park executive making amends.

New Characters and the Villain

DeWanda Wise is the best of the additions. Her Kayla Watts is a skilled mercenary pilot with a Han Solo edge, and she brings energy to every scene. Mamoudou Athie’s Ramsay Cole, a disillusioned Biosyn insider who becomes an ally, is likable but underwritten.

Campbell Scott plays Lewis Dodgson as a tech guru parody somewhere between a hippie founder and Tim Cook. Some critics compared him to a zombie Steve Jobs. He is a weak villain, more amusing than threatening.

Returning faces such as Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda, Omar Sy and Dichen Lachman appear in what are basically cameos. BD Wong’s Dr. Wu gets a more interesting turn as a regretful scientist trying to undo his mistakes.

Dinosaurs, Action and Visual Effects

The dinosaurs are where the film delivers. The VFX are high quality, and the mix of CG creatures with animatronics and practical effects gives several dinos real weight on screen. The feathered dinosaur designs feel fresh for the franchise.

The Malta raptor rooftop chase is the highlight. Owen’s motorbike pursuit through narrow streets and Claire’s foot chase are tightly edited and relentless. Trevorrow clearly borrowed from The Bourne Supremacy here, and it works, even if it ends with a flying reptile attack on an aircraft.

The fighting pit scene and the apex predator fights in the final act are entertaining but predictable. You know the T-Rex will show up and you know how it will end. The sound design does a lot of heavy lifting in building suspense.

What surprised me was how few scenes let the dinosaurs simply be animals. Most of the time they exist to chase people. The film has stunning creatures but rarely gives them room to create tension the way the original did.

Where the Story and Script Fall Apart

The biggest problem is that the story is not really about dinosaurs. The killer locusts drive the plot, and that is a strange choice for a franchise built on giant predators. The idea is serious, but it never feels exciting on screen.

The script relies heavily on coincidences and exposition. Characters crash land and run into each other exactly when needed. The movie turns into a global travelogue of planes, helicopters, motorcycles and vehicles, almost like Planes, Trains and Automobiles with dinosaurs.

The Malta sequence also leans on old clichés. Its portrayal of the city as a crime den with exotic touches drew criticism for Orientalism. It is one of several spots where the film takes shortcuts instead of building a believable world.

The humor and characterization are limp. A shark gag recalling Jaws gets a laugh, but many jokes land flat. Too many heroes chase too many plotlines, and nothing flows seamlessly. By the finish line, it is hard to stay invested in anyone.

Nostalgia, Callbacks and the Missing Sense of Wonder

Jurassic World Dominion is packed with callbacks. The dilophosaurus returns, amber and the shaving cream can come back, and several shots copy the original almost shot-for-shot. Some feel earned. Most feel like the film desperately reminding you of a better movie.

What the original had was timeless wonder. I first saw Jurassic Park as a child, and that first look at the brachiosaurus was pure jaadu. This film rarely tries to create that kind of iconic moment of awe for a new generation.

Even the monster movie scares are clumsy. The last act offers dinosaurs in dark corridors, but the scares are lighter and the dialogue keeps breaking the mood. Callbacks replace fresh ideas, and the series ends feeling more tired than triumphant.

Music and Score

Michael Giacchino’s score is solid and often on-point. He weaves in John Williams’ classic theme at the right moments, especially when the legacy characters appear. Those cues bring back more wonder than most of the images do.

The weak spot is the Malta sequence. The score leans on generic Arabic-African sounds to signal an exotic location, and it feels like a cliché. Outside of that, the soundtrack supports the action well without standing out on its own.

Jussara World Dominion Review: Final Verdict and Ratings

My honest Jussara World Dominion review: this is a harmless popcorn movie with impressive dinos and a soulless story. If you want dino action and the legacy trio on screen, it delivers. If you want a classic, it does not come close.

Critics were harsh. Aggregate critic scores stayed below 30 percent, and some reviewers gave it as low as 1 out of 4 stars, calling it mindless pseudoscience. Audiences were kinder, with opening-weekend polls giving it an A-minus.

AspectScore
Dinosaurs and VFXStrong
Action set piecesGood, but predictable

Overall gradeB-

At around dhai ghante, it is overstuffed. You could cut 90 minutes of footage, from the news montage to side plots, and lose little. It is a follow-up that pleases loyal fans but rarely earns its runtime.

Budget, Production Cost and Box Office

Jurassic World Dominion is one of the most expensive films ever made. UK filings from production company Arcadia Pictures, updated in June 2026, put the total cost at $683.7 million (£531.7 million). That makes it the most expensive film in the franchise.

The film shot at Pinewood Studios during the 2020 pandemic. COVID forced a pause and extra costs, including quarantine for 454 crew members at a Langley hotel. Shooting lasted roughly paanch mahine, and the production went heavily over budget.

Cost ItemAmount
Total publicly disclosed cost$683.7M
UK Audio-Visual Expenditure Credit (25.5%)$131.4M reimbursement
COVID job retention scheme support$3.7M
Net cost after support$548.6M

Earlier filings showed lower totals, which kept rising with each update. The final number even rivals Star Wars: The Force Awakens. These figures cover production, cast salaries and VFX work, but not marketing.

Worldwide box office passed $1 billion, making it one of the biggest hits of 2022 behind Top Gun: Maverick. With a roughly 50-50 split of theatrical takings, Universal kept around $500 million. That alone did not cover the cost, so home entertainment and merchandise made the difference between profit and nuqsan.

Jussara World Dominion Rating: Parents’ Guide

The official Jussara World Dominion rating is PG-13. Most family guides suggest ages 10+ for confident kids, but I’d recommend 12+ due to the jump scares and sustained peril. Here is a quick content breakdown.

CategoryWhat to Expect
Violence & ScarinessDinosaur attacks, jump scares, guns and other hathiyar, hand-to-hand fights, killer locusts, some deaths
LanguageSome gaaliyan and a middle finger gesture
Sex/RomanceLight flirting and a kiss between couples
DrinkingAdults drinking beer in a few scenes
ProductsConverse, iPhone, and brief MSNBC and BBC news clips
Positive MessagesTeamwork, bravery, respect for nature and science over profit and control
Role ModelsScientists who act with integrity; Owen and Claire protect Maisie at all costs

Representation is broader than in earlier films. The supporting cast includes a Black pilot, a Black scientist, and Asian American scientist Henry Wu. Owen, Claire and Maisie form a non-traditional family. Female characters drive key plot points, though most speaking roles in the ensemble still go to White actors, and the villain is a stereotypical tech CEO.

Talk to Your Kids About

After watching, these topics make for good family conversations:

  • How the story shows teamwork across generations, from the original scientists to younger heroes
  • What integrity looks like when a company puts profit before people
  • Why the violence feels different from pichli filmon in the series
  • How perseverance helps the characters survive
  • Which characters make good role models, and why

FAQs

Is Jurassic World Dominion the last film in the franchise?

It ended the Jurassic World trilogy, but not the franchise. Universal continued the series with Jurassic World Rebirth in 2025, which follows a new cast and story. Dominion remains the final outing for Owen, Claire and the legacy trio.

How long is Jussara World Dominion?

The theatrical cut runs 147 minutes. The extended edition on home release adds about 14 minutes, mostly a prehistoric prologue and a few extra scenes. Many viewers feel the theatrical cut is already long enough.

Is Jurassic World Dominion suitable for kids?

It is rated PG-13, and most families find it fine for ages 10 to 12 and up. The movie contains intense dinosaur attacks and jump scares but no graphic gore. Younger or sensitive kids may find the dark-corridor scenes scary.

Do I need to watch the earlier films before Dominion?

It helps. Fallen Kingdom explains Maisie’s origin and why dinosaurs are loose in the world. Watching Jurassic Park also makes the callbacks and the legacy trio’s return far more meaningful.

Why did Jurassic World Dominion cost so much?

The 2020 pandemic halted filming and added quarantine, safety and staffing costs. Large VFX workloads and big-name cast salaries pushed the total higher. Even after UK tax credits, the net cost stayed above half a billion dollars.

Was Jussara World Dominion a box office success?

Yes, in headline terms. It crossed $1 billion worldwide and ranked among the top films of 2022. Because of its huge budget, though, it relied on home entertainment and merchandise to become clearly profitable.
